Welcome to Kindergarten
Kindergarten is the building block to your child’s educational future. No matter where your child starts they will walk out of kindergarten with the confidence to be an independent reader. With diagnostic testing, we ensure we are meeting each child’s needs with differentiated, small group instruction in math and reading. Kindergarten will also dive into the arts, social studies, science, and religion.
In kindergarten, your child will experience:
- Full-time Instructional Aides in each classroom
- Math & Reading Specialists pushing into the classroom
- Daily Specials (Art, PE, Music, Library, Computer, Spanish, and Mandarin)
- Field Trips
- Recess Daily
- Mystery Science program with interactive experiments
- Weekly Mass
- Thematic Units of Study
- Guided Reading Groups that help foster literacy, collaboration, and a love of learning
- Play-based learning that builds social skills, creativity, and problem-solving
Kindergarten Screening
Prospective kindergarten students will participate in a screening evaluation given at St. Benedict prior to the school term. Skills that are observed include auditory, gross motor, language, visual, phonemic awareness, and fine motor. The results of these evaluations will assist in determining a child’s kindergarten readiness.
By the end of kindergarten, your child will have a well-rounded foundation, both academically and socially, to continue their educational journey with confidence and excitement.
Our school day runs from 7:30-2:20 in Kindergarten. Early drop-off is available from 7:15-7:30 at no charge. We have an afterschool program run by Just for Kids that is available daily until 5:30.
